askMID is the official way to check if a vehicle in the UK is listed on the Motor Insurance Database (MID), which is the central record of all insured vehicles. This is the database the police and DVLA use to enforce continuous insurance laws.
After clicking Check you will be taken to the official Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) / Navigate check page.
🚘 How to Use askMID
Go to the Official Site: You will want to visit the official website for the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), which operates the database (it often redirects to a service called "Navigate").
Select Your Check: Look for the option to "Check Your Vehicle" or a "Personal Check".
Enter Your Details: You will need to enter your vehicle registration number (number plate). You may also need to confirm that you are the owner, registered keeper, or authorized to drive the vehicle.
Get the Result: The system will give you a simple Yes or No answer on whether that vehicle is currently showing as insured on the MID.
Important Note: If you have just bought a new policy, it can sometimes take up to 7 days for your insurer to update the Motor Insurance Database. Even if it hasn't shown up yet, you are still legally covered to drive as long as you have received your official Certificate of Insurance from your provider.
🤔 What if the Details are Wrong?
If you are sure you have valid insurance but the result says "No," you should contact your insurance provider immediately. Only your insurer can update your details on the Motor Insurance Database.
The MIB and the askMID service cannot make corrections for you.
